Edmonton Downtown Farmers Market announced on social media that they will be moving from their current building citing cost as the biggest factor.
In an online announcement on Tuesday, the EDFM said that although they’ve had great success over the past 120 years and with support from residents and the city they were able to get through last winter, renewing their lease at the 108-year-old historic building would not be sustainable.

“Here in our current building we’ve struggled through the pandemic years, and although we are recovering, we face a hard reality. The cost of operating in this historic building is untenable,” said the statement on Twitter.

The market moved across town from their seasonal 104 Street location to their current indoor year-around building on 97 Street and 103 Avenue in 2019. Before moving to the Great Western Garment Company, during the winter the market had traditionally moved into city hall.

The market said they have several private building and space owners who have made relocation proposals and are currently at the table with several stakeholders.
EDFM said they will remain open and operating as a year-round Saturday and Sunday market into the fall and winter and will announce their plans on their new home when they have more information.
