Durban’s renowned beaches are temporarily closed for swimming and water activities, a decision enforced by the eThekwini municipality in collaboration with the KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board. This precautionary measure comes in the wake of recent heavy rains, resulting in murky waters filled with logs and debris, subsequently damaging most of the shark nets and rendering the beaches unsafe for public use.

Despite the halt in water activities, the municipality assures that the beaches remain open for other recreational pursuits. Visitors and locals alike are encouraged to continue enjoying the coastal areas, basking in the sun, and partaking in various land-based activities available along the shoreline.

Teams are actively working to repair the damaged nets and infrastructure, with a dedicated focus on restoring safe conditions for all water activities. The municipality urges beachgoers to adhere to the warnings and guidelines in place, ensuring their safety while enjoying the beauty of Durban’s coastline.

As the restoration efforts progress, the municipality remains committed to keeping the public informed and looks forward to welcoming beachgoers back to the waters as soon as it is safe to do so.
