Greek bulker player Drydel Shipping has contracted its first newbuild since changing its name from Meadway Shipping and Trading adding to its orderbook of nine vessels spread across Japanese yards and their affiliates.
The Costas Dellaportas-led company has struck a deal with Shin Kurushima Dockyard in Japan for the construction of a 64,000 dwt ultramax with delivery set for 2026.
Brokers are quoting between $34m and $35m for similar tonnage depending on the country of build, but no price or vessel details have been divulged for this order.
Drydel was officially launched in February to set itself apart from Meadway Bulkers set up by Costas’ brother George Dellaportas in 2021. The company lists 11 bulkers in its fleet in addition to 19 chartered-in ships and now 10 newbuilds set for delivery between 2024 and 2026.
