Two vehicle incidents on the Coquihalla Highway caused road closures, congestion and detours between Hope and Merritt late Monday afternoon.
Highway 5 southbound was closed after a multi-vehicle incident between Exit 217 (the Zopkios brake check) and Exit 202 at Portia, a 5.5-kilometre stretch from three kilometres south of the Coquihalla summit to two kilometres south of the Great Bear snowshed.

Southbound traffic was being detoured onto Highway 5A and Highway 3.
Northbound traffic was getting through and Drive B.C. stopped reporting delays and congestion in that direction shortly after 8 p.m.
As of 8:30 p.m., it was estimated the southbound lanes would reopen at about 2 a.m. Tuesday.
The next Drive B.C. update on the closure is expected at 9 p.m. Monday.
