Recalling the contributions of tribals, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel in Tapi Wednesday said the community members had played an important role in India’s struggle for independence and took up revolutionary steps by taking up arms during the freedom movement. “The tribals always sacrificed their lives and became martyrs for the country,” he said as he kickstarted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s campaign “Meri Mati Mera Desh” to honour the bravehearts who lost their lives for the country ahead of the Independence Day.
The CM was in Tapi to attend a state-level event to mark the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples. He also recalled tribal revolutionary leader Govind Guru.

The CM stressed how under PM Modi’s leadership, development is reaching even the remotest parts of the country. He recalled how a school teacher, in whose house the CM stayed overnight at a bordering village in Tapi during a recent visit, spent nearly Rs 40 lakh to ensure adequate facilities. “I found that the teacher had spent Rs 35 lakh to Rs 40 lakh in his house for all the facilities. I found good roads, water, power, and health facilities in the village. This has happened only because of PM Modi’s vision that all facilities should reach even the bordering villages,” he said.
“Earlier, there were no science schools in the tribal districts of Gujarat. It was PM Modi who started science schools in tribal districts so that the tribal children can become doctors and engineers. Today, there are medical colleges in the tribal belts of Rajpipla and Dahod,” he added.
Former state cabinet minister Ganpat Vasava was conspicuously absent from the event. He told The Indian Express, “I have been given responsibility for another area. So, I could not be present at the Songadh event.” However, when asked to name the area, he said, “I cannot disclose it to you.”
