The body of a tech entrepreneur has been recovered a week after a tragic Sydney Harbour boat accident that also killed a prominent art dealer.

Andrew Findlay, 50, was presumed dead after going missing in waters off Sydney on July 20 following a crash aboard a fishing boat at The Gap near Watsons Bay.

The crash also claimed the life of Indigenous art dealer Tim Klingender.

“About 2.10pm (Wednesday 26 July 2023), a fisherman observed a body approximately 150m south of The Gap,” a NSW Police spokesperson said.

“Water Police responded and recovered the body, now confirmed to be a 51-year-old man from a boating accident last Thursday (20 July 2023).”

Mr Findlay and Mr Klingender had set off on a fishing trip from last Thursday when the accident occurred while they were headed to Watsons Bay at The Gap.

It’s believed that a 5m swell caused the pair’s vessel to crash onto rocks, NSW Police Marine Area Command Superintendent Joe McNulty said in the days after the accident.

“It appears they’ve … been swept by a large wave that possibly capsized the vessel and (has) thrown both men into the ocean,” Superintendent McNulty said.

“It was violent sea conditions and a violent accident that occurred.”

He said the 7.8m inflatable rib was likely being piloted too close to the cliff face prior to the crash.

Mr Findlay leaves behind a wife and three young children.
