The Australian’s Foreign Editor Greg Sheridan says the Albanese government’s position on China is becoming “ridiculous”.
“Just as silly as the Morrison government’s position was but in the opposite direction,” Mr Sheridan told Sky News Australia.
Mr Sheridan’s remarks come after divers from the Royal Australian Navy suffered minor injuries after an “unsafe and unprofessional” engagement with a Chinese warship.
“I think it’s completely unsustainable for Albanese not to say whether he raised the matter with Xi Jinping,” he said.
“If the relationship is so fragile that the Prime Minister can’t even bring himself to raise such an outrageous action by the Chinese navy when he sees President Xi Jinping, then this government is in even more of a tangle.”
