Melbourne forced into very late change
Well, well, well, we’ve got a late twist in the tail!
Taj Woewodin has been ushered into Melbourne’s side for Jake Lever, who is set to miss through illness.
With fellow defensive star Steven May also missing, Lever’s absence means it is the first time the Dees line up without their two defensive pillars since Round 11 in 2019, ending a 124-game streak.

AFL forced to shift fixture after union pay dispute
A pay dispute between Tasmania’s electrical workers union and TasNetworks has thrown tomorrow’s AFL clash between Hawthorn and North Melbourne in Launceston into chaos, with the league forced to reschedule the game.
The AFL has shifted the fixture from 4:40pm to 12:30pm tomorrow, in a bid to mitigate a potential loss of power at the venue — namely, the stadium lighting.
The Communications, Electrical and Plumbing Union (CEPU) is holding out for a pay increase for TasNetworks staff, with tomorrow’s game caught in the crossfire amid a stall in negotiations.
Here are the updated start times for Saturday’s day matches (all times AEST).

Why the line?
Question that has been irritating me all year.
There is a line across the centre circle where the rucks have to start on opposite sides.
As soon as the ball is bounced or thrown up usually one ruck crosses the line and goes at their opposition rather than the ball.
Why bother with the line?– John, (North of Brisbane)
Hi John,
As far as I understand the line is there simply so both ruckmen have to start on either side of it as opposed to potentially both wanting to run up from the same spot.

Demons call on premiership great to spark Pies ‘dislike’
Try telling Melbourne there is nothing to play for in their final-round clash with Collingwood.
Although they will miss the finals for the first time since 2020, the Demons are attacking Friday night’s match at the MCG with vigour.
The club will honour the 60th anniversary of their 1964 premiership — their last before Simon Goodwin’s group broke the drought in 2021.
Melbourne and Collingwood battled it out across five grand finals between 1955 and 1964, with the Demons saluting in four of them.
“We just had Hassa Mann down here, from the 1964 premiership team that we’ll honour on Friday night,” Goodwin said.
“He’s a legend of our footy club and he spoke pretty clearly about the dislike for Collingwood.
“It’s a massive game against a team that we’ve had some cracking games with in recent times and developing a really big rivalry.
“It doesn’t mean a lot in terms of finals, but it means a lot in terms of us — we play to win no matter what.”

Welcome!
Good evening footy fans and welcome to ABC Sport’s live AFL coverage.
Tonight we will focus our attention on the hallowed turf of the MCG as Collingwood and Melbourne face off.
There are no finals stakes on the line for either side, but there is absolutely no love lost between these two teams.
The last time these two faced off, on the King’s Birthday, a knee to the ribs from Collingwood skipper Darcy Moore ended Melbourne star Christian Petracca’s season.
Then there was the qualifying final last year where Brayden Maynard inadvertently ended Angus Brayshaw’s career when he attempted to smother the Demons midfielder’s running kick.
Don’t be surprised if there’s some fireworks out there tonight.
We’re just over an hour away from the first bounce, so strap yourselves in as we bring you all the latest.
