Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh Monday directed his party workers in Pune to prepare for the upcoming municipal corporation and panchayat elections in Maharashtra as he launched a barrage of criticism against the Narendra Modi-led Central Government.

At the party’s Mahasankalp Jansabha in Pune’s Nana Peth area in the evening, Singh said voters need to beat the BJP leadership’s arrogance-filled head with the ‘jhadu’ to drive out the evil spirits that have possessed it. He was referring to the AAP’s poll symbol of the broom.

As he addressed the party workers, Singh said he had come to them with a message from AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal.

“In Gujarat, we showed our power in the Surat municipal council and from there we spread to the rest of the state and garnered 14 per cent votes in the Assembly polls. We did the same in Punjab by successfully contesting the Chandigarh municipal corporation polls and then winning the Assembly election,” said Singh.

“Hence, I have been asked by Arvind Kejriwal to deliver a message to you to prepare to contest the municipal and panchayat polls,” he added.

Singh alleged that the BJP which earlier robbed Maharashtra’s banks through corruption is now robbing people of their elected representatives using central agencies as he talked about NCP leader Ajit Pawar. He also said the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has also acquired the habit of knocking down elected governments using money.

“Devendra Fadnavis used to say that Ajit Pawar will go to jail. The Prime Minister said in Bhopal that Ajit Pawar has done an irrigation scam of Rs 70,000 crore and also that of a state cooperative bank. And we saw that after three days he was garlanded and made the deputy chief minister,” said Singh.

All ‘tainted leaders’ become clean once they join the BJP, he alleged. “Everyone knows about the new washing powder in the country – Modi Washing powder. One can murder, steal, swindle, and do all the crimes in the world. But once you use Modi Washing powder by entering the BJP, then all taints can be cleaned,” he said.

The AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP also listed the achievements of his party’s government in Delhi which he said has rattled the Centre.

“The AAP government has transformed Delhi schools under the leadership of Manish Sisodia to the extent that parents are withdrawing their kids from private schools and admitting them to public schools. But the BJP didn’t like this and they have put Manish Sisodia behind bars. They did the same to Satyendra Jain who, as the health minister, worked tirelessly during the pandemic despite his father’s death,” said Singh.

Singh said the serious issues of farm distress and unemployment are being ignored by the government which is polarising the country on the basis of religion. He said the country won’t progress on the basis of hatred, it will march ahead only on the basis of unity and amity.

AAP state and city leadership including Gopal Italia, Dhananjay Shinde, Vijay Kumbhar, and Sudarshan Jagdale were also present at the rally.
