Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, an ancient Sanskrit phrase, resonates deeply with the ethos of India, encapsulating the belief that “the world is one family”. In the contemporary globalised world, this Indian thought finds a pertinent expression in India’s G20 presidency, where the nation strives to contribute to global governance while adhering to its principles of Janbhagidari or people’s participation.

In the radiant tapestry of global leadership, the Indian government has not merely upheld this age-old philosophy, but has elevated it to unprecedented heights by infusing the G20 Presidency with resoundingly people-centric ethos, ensuring that the grandeur of the G20 Summits trickles down to touch the lives of 1.4 billion Indians masses. This monumental feat finds its zenith in the multifaceted Janbhagidari initiative, encapsulating a harmonious fusion of global cooperation and grassroots engagement.

This demonstrates that the deep-rooted philosophy of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam‘ was not merely a thematic aspiration confined to India’s G20 presidency on the global stage; but was also witnessed as a first hand experience by the Indian masses in the face of Janbhagidari initiatives.

Janbhagidari in India’s engagement, embodies a celestial dance of inclusive participation. “Janbhagidari” represents a compound term that can be dissected as “Jan” connoting the Indian populace and “Bhagidari”. The term represents the notion of grassroot participation and engagement. Collectively, “Janbhagidari” epitomises the concept of robust and proactive citizen engagement in diverse facets of governance and the overarching process of nation-building.

India’s G20 Presidency embodied the idea in the HRD Ministry’s initiative “Janbhagidari” – centred on “Ensuring Foundation Literacy and Numeracy (FLN),” with a particular emphasis on blended learning. By orchestrating a diverse array of events, workshops, exhibitions, seminars, and conferences across the nation, the Ministry of Education ignited awareness and ignited a profound sense of pride among various stakeholders.

In collaboration with all States and UTs, the Ministry has spearheaded a phenomenal success with a staggering participation of over 1.53 crores Indians, embodying the spirit of collaborative efforts simultaneously bridging the gap between global diplomacy and citizen’s aspirations.

Janbhagidari, the melody of people’s participation, breathes life into the very essence of democracy. Yet, the enchantment of Janbhagidari, doesn’t end with participation, it endents its tendrils to embrace “Jan-samvad”. Jan-samvad is the bridge that connects the government and its citizens, harbouring dialogue between the two.

A spectrum of captivating peruits – ranging from the enlightening G20 university connect lectures series to interactive Model G20 meetings, G20 Pavilions at prominent festivals and engaging quiz contests played a fundamental role in nurturing widespread enthusiastic engagement and a series of dialogue bridging the government and the people.

The realm of Jansamvad beckons to individuals, encouraging them to step into the limelight of the democratic stage and engage in the grand narrative of the government while their ideas and opinions blossom like a heavenly bloom.

With a myriad of initiatives crowning in “Janbhagidari” and “Jan-samvad”, the prominence of inclusivity was not just a lofty ideal but a revolutionising reality created by India for its masses. Through vibrant pursuits undertaken by the Indian government, the grandeur of the G20 Summit has cascaded into the lives of every Indian in real sense, breaking down the barriers that often separate global diplomacy from the daily concerns of citizens. What once was considered the secluded sphere of distinguished diplomats is now trickling down to the populace pioneered by the Indian leadership.

However, striking a balance between national interests and global responsibilities remains a complicated undertaking. India’s burgeoning influence within the G20 necessitates a steadfast commitment to act as a champion for the cause of inclusivity and equity within the G20, as India is spearheading the advancement of the Global South by championing equitable policies and fostering collaboration to address shared challenges and opportunities. But it must continue to assert itself in shaping global policies. This requires effective diplomacy and advocacy to ensure that its voice is heard and respected.

In conclusion, India’s journey through the G20 Presidency, intertwined with profound thoughts like Janbhagidari and Jan-samvad has exemplified its commitment to a more inclusive and equitable world order.

The G20 presidency transcends the realm of diplomatic discussions to have a tangible impact on 1.4 billion Indians. India transformed an elite diplomatic event into a people’s event, writes the foreign minister.

This approach has amplified the essence of democracy by fostering a dialogue between government and citizens. India’s G20 has truly been People’s G20, illuminating the path of grassroots engagement, emphasising active citizen participation in governance and nation-building. India’s G20 presidency stands as a testament to the endeavouring values of egalitarianism , inclusivity and practice of statesmanship in an interconnected world.
