Sandeep Reddy Vanga has been criticised by many for his recent film Animal’s violent and misogynistic content. Recently, the director was asked about the detractors and the director brought up an interview by Kiran Rao where she stated that films like Baahubali and Kabir Singh promote stalking. In a chat with Dainik Bhaskar, Sandeep, without naming Kiran, addressed her criticism and brought up Aamir Khan’s film Dil where his character threatens Madhuri Dixit’s character with rape and the two eventually fall in love with each other.
Sandeep said, “Some people don’t understand what they are saying. One assistant director showed me the article from this superstar’s second ex-wife where she was saying that Baahubali and Kabir Singh promote misogyny, promote stalking. I think she doesn’t understand the difference between stalking and approaching.”

Sandeep Reddy Vanga then took a shot at Aamir Khan’s 1990 film Dil and said, “I want to tell that woman that go and ask Aamir Khan about the song ‘Khambe jaisi khadi hai’, what was that? Then come back to me. If you remember Dil, he almost attempts rape, he makes her feel like she has done the wrong thing. And they fall in love after that. What was all that? I don’t understand why they attack like that before checking the surroundings.”

In November, Kiran Rao shared with The Times of India that Baahubali’s lead character “strips her (lead heroine) of her agency”. She reportedly named Kabir Singh as one of the films that glorifies stalking as a “form of wooing a woman”.
In Dil, Madhuri Dixit’s character accuses Aamir Khan’s character of raping her. Later, he threatens her with rape but lets her go. The scene has been deemed as extremely problematic in the years since even though Dil was a big hit at the time.
Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s film Animal made over Rs 900 crore at the global box office. The film recently started streaming on Netflix.
