A 14-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by three men in the Nagoan district of Assam. The survivor was rescued by police in a semi-conscious state on a road in Dhing area of the district on Thursday.
The police rescued the survivor after receiving a tip off from a passerby. The accused are yet to be identified.
The rescued minor girl has been admitted to Dhing medical unit in Nagoan district of the state. The Student Union has called a Bandh in the area today in lieu of the incident.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma strongly condemned the incident, describing it as a “crime against humanity”. Taking to X, the Chief Minister expressed his outrage over the incident and vowed to bring the accused to justice.
“The horrific incident at Dhing, involving a minor, is a crime against humanity and has struck our collective conscience. We will NOT SPARE anyone & BRING the perpetrators to JUSTICE,” Sharma wrote.
He also added that he has directed the Director General of Police (DGP) of Assam, to visit the site of the crime and ensure swift and decisive action against those responsible. “I’ve directed DGP Assam Police to visit the site and ensure swift action against such monsters,” he added.
