Le Diner en Blanc, Vancouver’s annual outdoor dinner party that sees guests don all white ensembles, returns this evening. The event, which is part of a global dinner experience by the same name, sees more than 2,300 people show up dressed all in white, food and picnic table in tow, for a summer soirée under the stars.

Here are five things to know about this year’s event.

Location, location, location

A closely guarded secret until a few minutes before the event, this year’s Le Diner en Blanc will be held at Cooper’s Park (1020 Marinaside Crescent) in Yaletown.

Right on time

Guests are set to begin arriving in groups at the location at 6 p.m. and dinner kickoff is slated for 6:45 p.m. The party continues into the night, punctuated by a sparkling presentation — “all guests light sparklers,” according to a news release — at 9 p.m. followed by dancing.

Strict dress code

The event has a strict dress code that requires that all attendees wear white and only white. No exceptions. This dress code also extends to the table setup, which attendees must bring themselves, including tables and chairs, table linens and place settings.

Marking a milestone

This year’s Le Diner en Blanc event is the 10th anniversary of the outdoor dinner experience in Vancouver. The first Le Diner en Blanc was held in Paris in 1988 by founder François Pasquier and a few of his friends. To date, the dining event has grown to include events in more than 80 cities in 30 countries, according to the Vancouver event website.

Exclusive access

Interested in attending next year’s event? There are three “phases” for gaining access, according to Vancouver organizers. The first “phase” is offered to “members from the previous year and friends of the organization and leaders.” The second phase includes those who are “sponsored” by those included within the Phase 1 category. Finally, all others interested in attending are invited to join the event’s waiting list to try to get a spot for the next Le Diner en Blanc. Tickets are priced between $62 and $75.
