2. The Cradle of Humankind

Located in the Gauteng province, the Cradle of Humankind is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to the Sterkfontein Caves, one of the most important archaeological sites in the world. Here, you can explore the caves and learn about the history of humanity, dating back millions of years. You can also take a guided tour of the Maropeng Visitor Centre and the Tumulus Building, which provide a unique perspective on the origins of humankind.

The destination is located just 50km from Johannesburg and is easily accessible by various forms of transportation. To get there by car, take exit 80 at Roodepoort on the N1 and follow Hendrik Potgieter road north. This road will eventually merge with N14 and lead you directly to the Cradle of Humankind.
