Prime Minister Modi to Lead 77th Independence Day Celebrations at Red Fort

The nation is gearing up for the 77th Independence Day celebrations on August 15, with Prime Minister Modi set to lead the event at the iconic Red Fort. According to a statement released by the Defence Ministry, approximately 1,800 individuals from diverse professions, accompanied by their spouses, have been extended special invitations to attend the festivities.

During the event, Prime Minister Modi will hoist the national flag and deliver the customary address to the nation from the historic ramparts of the Red Fort. Notably, the number of guests invited this year has significantly increased compared to the previous year, aligning with the government’s vision of “Jan Bhagidari” or public participation, as stated by the ministry.

Diverse ‘Special Guests’ for Independence Day Celebration

The list of ‘Special Guests‘ comprises over 400 sarpanches representing more than 660 vibrant villages, 250 participants from farmer producer organizations, 50 individuals each from the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Scheme and Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana, as well as 50 Shram Yogis (construction workers) associated with projects like the Central Vista Project and the New Parliament Building. Additionally, 50 Khadi workers, individuals contributing to the construction of border roads, the creation of Amrit Sarovar, and the Har Ghar Jal Yojana have been included.

The guest list extends to encompass 50 primary school teachers, nurses, fishermen, and couples from each state and Union Territory, all donned in traditional attire. Several of these distinguished guests are also scheduled to visit the National War Memorial and meet with Raksha Rajya Mantri Shri Ajay Bhatt during their stay in Delhi.

Recognition of Border Roads Organisation (BRO) Karmyogis

In a historic move, the 76th Independence Day ceremony will feature the presence of 50 distinguished ‘Karmyogis’ (Corporals) from the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), accompanied by their spouses, as special guests. This unprecedented inclusion acknowledges the tireless dedication, resilience, and determination exhibited by the BRO Karmyogis in safeguarding and enhancing the nation’s borders.

Selfie Points and Online Contest

To further enhance the celebration experience, selfie points dedicated to various government schemes and initiatives have been set up at 12 different locations, including prominent landmarks like the National War Memorial, India Gate, and Raj Ghat. In conjunction with this, the Ministry of Defence is organizing an online selfie contest on the MyGov portal from August 15 to 20.

All official invitations have been sent electronically through the aamantran portal, with a total of 17,000 e-invitation cards distributed through the same platform.

Traffic Arrangements and Advisory

As part of the preparations, the Delhi Traffic Police have issued an advisory to ensure smooth traffic flow during the Independence Day celebrations. Certain roads will be temporarily closed for traffic between 4 am and 11 am on August 15, including Netaji Subhash Marg, Lothian Road, S.P. Mukherjee Marg, Nishad Raj Marg, and more. Only vehicles with designated parking labels will be allowed on these roads.

For those without parking labels, specific areas such as C-Hexagon India Gate, Copernicus Marg, and Mandi House should be avoided during the specified timings. The advisory is aimed at minimizing traffic disruptions and ensuring the safety and convenience of the public during this significant national event.
